Zubair Kazi was born in Bhatkal,a small town in southwest India. His dream was to be an airplanepilot,and when he was 16 years old,he learned to fly a small plane.
At the age of 23 and with just a little money in his pocket, Mr. Kazi moved to the United States.He hoped to get a job in the airplane industry in California. Instead, he ended up working for a compa-ny that rented cars.
While Mr. Kazi was working at the car rental(租赁的)company,he frequently ate at a nearby KFCrestaurant. To save money on food,he decided to get a job with KFC. For two months,he worked as acook's assistant. His job was to clean the kitchen and help the cook. "I didn't like it,"Mr,Kazi says,"but I always did the best I could. "
One day, Mr. Kazi's two co-workers failed to come to work. That day,Mr. Kazi did the work of allthree people in the kitchen. This really impressed the owners of the restaurant. If someone had to wait more than ten minutesfor their food, Mrs. Kazi gave them a free soda. Before long the restaurant was making a profit.
A year later, Mr. Kazi sold his restaurant for a profit. With the money he earned, he bought threemore restaurants that were losing money. Again, he cleaned them up,improved the food,and retrainedthe employees. Before long these restaurants were making a profit,too.

I had an experience recently with someone admitting to me that he had made a mistake fifteen years ago. He told me he had been the manager of a certain store in the neighborhood where I grew up; and he asked me if I remembered the egg cartons (in many countries, eggs are sold by the dozen and are put in cartons). Then he related an incident(event, matter)and I began to remember unclearly the incident he was describing.
I was about eight years old at the time. I went into the store with my mother to do some shopping. On that particular day, I must have found my way to the food department where the incident took place.
There must have been a special sale on eggs that day because there were lots of eggs in dozen and half-dozen cartons. The cartons were put three or four feet high. I must have stopped in front of the piles of egg cartons. Just then a woman came by pushing her shopping cart and knocked off the cartons. For some reason, I decided it was up to me to put the eggs back together, so I went to work.
The manager heard the noise and came rushing over to see what had happened. When he appeared, I was on my knees looking at some of the cartons to see if any of the eggs were broken, but to him it looked as though I was the one who just did it. He severely reprimanded me and wanted me to pay for any broken eggs. I tried to explain, but it did no good. Even though I quickly forgot all about the incident, it is plain that the manager did not.

Over the weekend, we spent hours and hours, staying up late into the night, talking about the people she was hanging around with. She started telling me stories about her new boy friend, about how he experimented with drugs and was into other self-destructive behavior. I was blown away! We'd been friends for far too long. I had to hope that she valued me enough to know that I was trying to save her from hurting herself. I wanted to believe that our friendship could conquer anything.
A few days later, she called to say that she had thought long and hard about our conversation, and then she told me that she had broken up with her boy friend. I just listened on the other end of the phone with tears of joy running down my face. It was one of the truly rewarding moments in my life. Never had I been so proud of a friend.
